Beaches
The nearest beach is at Fort Island which is at the end of Hwy 44.
From our Villa it is a short drive through palm trees and sawgrass along a quiet country road to the beach. No intersections or lights just Florida scenery.
Attractions
Homosassa Springs has a State Wildlife Park housing manatees, alligators, Florida snakes and other wildlife. There are nature trails where deer, otters, cougars, bear and bobcats can be viewed. There is also an abundance of aquatic bird-life.
Weeki Wachee Springs live entertainment and a very good water park. Exotic birds, river cruise and nature trails.
Tubing down the Rainbow River is fabulous but do not forget the sunscreen
Take a trip to Cedar Key and see old Florida.
For a completely different way of spotting manatee in Kings Bay take a helicopter ride from Crystal River airport....not expensive for the shorter flights and great fun.
Busch Gardens in Tampa is a marvellous family day out with a combination of white-knuckle rides and animals roaming in a man-made Serengeti Plain.
Orlando is around 90 minutes away with all the attractions of Disney, Universal Studios etc.
Try swimming with Dolphins at Discovery Cove, expensive but a unique experience (must book in advance).
